Apple Wonderlust 2023: The 5 biggest and most crucial announcements from iPhone 15’s launch event

Tim Cook and his team made a number of announcements during Apple’s Wonderlust 2023 event. While the launch of the new iPhone 15 series was the headlining launch at the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team made a number of other announcements and unveilings as well.

We list the 5 biggest and most crucial announcements that Apple’s executive team made, that will have a long-lasting impact on the Apple ecosystem, and possible mobile hardware as well.

Apple iPhones get Dynamic Island, 48MP cameras, and USB-C
Apple has just unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 15 lineup, and it’s got some exciting new features. For the first time ever, these new phones come equipped with USB-C, which is a big deal. They’ve also introduced something called Dynamic Island, which was previously exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models.

The iPhone 15 packs the A16 chip, just like the 14 Pro, and it comes in a 6.1-inch size. If you’re into bigger screens, the iPhone 15 Plus boasts a 6.7-inch display. Both of these models sport a powerful 48MP main camera, promise “all-day battery life,” and include a second-gen ultra wideband chip.

iPhone 15 Pro series gets Titanium chassis, new Action Button
Now, for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, they’ve gone all out with upgrades. These models have a USB-C port, and they’ve replaced the mute switch with something called an Action Button, which you can customize to your liking. Plus, they’ve slimmed down the bezels and made the phone lighter by using a titanium build.

Under the hood, there’s a more efficient A17 Pro processor, and you’ll get faster USB-C charging compared to the standard iPhone 15. And photography enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that the iPhone 15 Pro Max includes a 5x telephoto camera in addition to the impressive 48MP main camera.

iOS 17, watchOS 10, iPadOS 17 incoming
Apple has spilt the beans on the release dates for its upcoming software updates. Brace yourselves because iOS 17, watchOS 10, and iPadOS 17 are all set to drop on September 18th. However, if you’re eagerly waiting for macOS Sonoma, you’ll need to mark September 26th on your calendar.

Watch 9 gets a ton of new features, and performance boost
But that’s not all the Apple news. They’ve just unveiled the swanky Watch Series 9, which packs a serious punch. It’s got a supercharged ultra wideband chip and an upgraded S9 processor, ensuring you get that coveted “all-day” battery life. What’s more, there’s a slick “double-tap” gesture that lets you do cool stuff like answering calls or snoozing alarms with just a couple of taps.

Fashion-forward folks will be delighted to know that the Watch Series 9 will be available in a stylish new pink colour option, and you’ll have some snazzy stainless steel case choices too. Plus, Apple’s doing its bit for the planet by ditching leather watch bands (and phone cases). The Watch Series 9 starts at $399 with GPS, or you can go all out with GPS and cellular for $499. You can start ordering them today, and they’ll be in your hands on September 22.

Apple had one more ace up its sleeve at the event: the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra. Much like the Watch Series 9, it’s got that handy ultra wideband chip and an S9 processor that makes the double-tap gesture possible.

But here’s the kicker – the Watch Ultra 2 is stepping up its display game with an upgraded 3,000-nit screen. And the best part? Even with all these enhancements, it still manages to deliver a whopping 72 hours of battery life on a single charge in low-power mode.

Road-side assistance in Emergency SOS feature
Apple is taking its Emergency SOS feature to the next level by teaming up with AAA to offer roadside assistance. This means that if you find yourself in a sticky situation like a flat tire or a stranded vehicle, you can simply send a text with “Roadside Assistance” to get the help you need.

And here’s the cherry on top: Apple is being extra generous by providing this service for free during the first two years when you have an iPhone 15.
